Pushkin

Pushkin, one of the most known sights of Russia, is an outstanding world-value monument of architecture, culture and art. Founded in 1710, Pushkin is connected with life and establishment of the city of Great Peter.

As an outstanding monument of architecture and landscaping Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin) was included in the UNESCO list of world heritage. Famous tsar residence is well known far more than Russia for splendid landscape architecture, majestic palaces and villas amazing by their beauty and elegancy.

One of the masterpieces of world architecture Catherine Palace has been saving for more than half a century unique "eight world miracle" – Amber Room which history is full of dramatic secrets and has an enormous historical significance.

Whole epochs of Russian history were reflected in our city. Beauty of Pushkin attracts annually more than 2 mln guests from everywhere. It's also determined by advantageous location in respect of Saint-Petersburg.

Pushkin is situated 24 kilometers from St. Petersburg to the South on the Izhorskaya height, raising 60 - 80 meters above the sea. The high disposition of Pushkin above the sea makes the specific micro climate, as it isn't influenced by the Gulf of Finland and the cyclones of Atlantic.

Green plantations occupy more than 2,5 thousand hectares. The landscape here is very different and it looks like as the nature made it specially for making parks: hills, ridges and terraces change with valleys and plains; forests are changed by fields.

The basis of natural resources is formed by sweet surface and underground waters with the total extension about 95,9 kilometers. The main water-way of Pushkin region is the river Slavyanka, the large left inflow of Neva River. The peat-field "Obuhovskoye" situated in Pushkin region, is the only peat-field in Saint Petersburg which is exploited with an output of 108 thousand cubic meters annually. There is a zone of thermal animally on the territory of our region where at the depth of 1900-2000 meters the temperature of crystalline rocks reaches the point of 70 C. A thermal station might be in sight here.

The Pushkin region has a developed transport infrastructure. It is connected with Saint Petersburg by highway and railway road. Four railway stations and two motorways provide quick communication with Moscow, Baltic region and countries of Central Europe. There are the international airport "Pulkovo" and commercial port at the distance correspondingly of 10 and 15 kilometers from Pushkin.

The Pushkin town enters structurally into Pushkin administrative region of St.-Petersburg. According the results of national census, the population of Pushkin region is about 101 thousand people, among them 56,1 are able-bodied, 33,7 are retired persons, 26,8 – children and teenagers. The presence of the high and average educational developed system forms a large quota of the students and pupils - about 20 000 persons.

More than 2000 enterprises of various ownership patterns are registered in Pushkin region now. Most significant of them specialize on wood manufacturing, mechanical engineering, metal working, repair of constructing and road machines.

Modern development of Pushkin region is aimed to transform our city into the center of culture, tourism and business development. Nowadays 24,4 thousand people (21% of population) are occupied in economic sphere which might be presented in the following way:

  • industry – 31%
  • building – 21%
  • agriculture – 3%
  • trade – 18%
  • transport – 6%
  • Private business – 21%.
